What is Soplica?

Vodka and nalewka from Poland

The first bottle of Soplica was made in 1891 at a distillery in Gniezno. Today, Soplica is made by Polmos Łańcut in southeastern Poland. The label features a Polish manor house, a nod to Adam Mickiewicz's famous poem Pan Tadeusz, in which the Soplica family plays a leading role.

Besides the clear Szlachetna Wódka, Soplica mainly makes nalewki: sweet Polish fruit liqueurs made from fruit or nuts and alcohol. In Poland, nalewki have traditionally also been made at home and served as an aperitif or after a meal. Soplica's nalewki contain 25 to 28% alcohol, so they are lighter and sweeter than regular vodka. At Gall & Gall, they are listed with the flavored vodka.

How to drink it

Three ways to drink Soplica

In Poland, vodka and nalewka are preferably drunk ice-cold, from a small glass, with something to eat.

Ice-cold from a small glass

Place the bottle in the freezer or refrigerator and pour a small shot or liqueur glass. The Polish tradition: serve it with something savoury, such as pickles or herring.

Glass: shot glass →

As a highball

Add ice to a highball glass, pour in 4 cl of Soplica and top up with sparkling water or tonic. Delicious with Malinowa, Cytryna-Malina and Arbuz z Miętą.

Glass: highball glass →

With coffee or bubbles

A splash of Orzech Laskowy in your coffee, or 2 cl of Malinowa in a glass of prosecco. That’s how a nalewka becomes a festive drink.
