Arrogant Frog

Arrogant Frog is a wine brand from Languedoc in southern France, made by Jean-Claude Mas. The name is a joke: the English sometimes call the French arrogant frogs. What is Arrogant Frog?

A French frog with a sense of humor

Arrogant Frog is a wine brand by Jean-Claude Mas, a well-known winemaker from Languedoc. With this brand, he makes French wine in a New World style: fruity, approachable, and with the grape variety prominently displayed on the label, as you know from wines from Australia or Chile. The rest of the label is a joke. The English sometimes call the French "frogs" because they eat frog legs, and consider them a little arrogant. Mas made it his mascot.

The wines come from Languedoc, the large, sunny wine region along the Mediterranean. There are single-varietal wines, such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, and Viognier, as well as blends such as Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot or Malbec with Syrah. A few wines are organic, such as Chardonnay Bio and Rural Red.

The Ribet range is named after the sound a frog makes and is also available in a 37.5 cl half bottle, enough for three glasses. There are also special cuvées such as Château Arrogant Frog, a Chardonnay from Limoux near the Pyrenees, and Les Calades, a single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. For parties, there is red, white, and rosé in a 3-liter bag-in-box.

How to drink it

How to serve Arrogant Frog

Fruity wine is best not served too warm. This keeps it fresh and juicy.

White and rosé, chilled

Serve Sauvignon Blanc and rosé at 8 to 10 degrees. Full-bodied chardonnays, White Satin and Viognier may be served slightly warmer, around 10 to 12 degrees, so you can taste their creaminess.

More about wine temperature →

Red, slightly chilled

Pinot Noir is best served at 14 to 15 degrees. Serve Cabernet Merlot, Malbec Syrah and Red Velvet at 16 to 17 degrees. In a warm room, place the bottle in the fridge for about fifteen minutes.

More about wine temperature →

Half bottle or bag in box

A 37.5 cl Ribet is exactly three glasses, convenient when you're alone or with two people. The bag in box stays good for a few weeks after opening because no air reaches the wine.
